J.W. Martin Library Staff Plans Upcoming Spring Workshops

Library Spring Workshops

Northwestern Oklahoma State University’s J.W. Martin Library staff will be offering several upcoming workshops – all of which are free and open to the public.

“Students may not realize they have access to a wealth of academic scholarship through the university library,” Douglas Davidson, research and instructional services librarian and assistant professor of library science, said. “By learning how to search library resources effectively, they can get more high-quality resources in a shorter amount of time.”

All Northwestern students and employees are welcome to attend.

“These workshops approach basic academic needs from three directions: locating quality sources, citing those sources correctly, and expertly constructing term papers with minimal hassle,” Davidson said. “These workshops can save students time and take some of the stress out of higher education.”

Davidson will be conducting three different workshops titled, “Research Beyond Google,” “Secrets of APA Style” and “Master Microsoft Word.”

He said learning the ins and outs of research, APA style and Microsoft Word can be frustrating and time-consuming. Participants who attend the workshops will gain tips to eliminate those frustrations.

All the workshops listed will be at noon in the J.W. Martin Library in Room 101:

  • “Research Beyond Google”

Feb. 15 and Feb. 17
Introduction to research databases and the "Deep Web." Students will learn to find appropriate online content for academic research.

  • “Secrets of APA Style”

March 1 and March 3

Learn how to create documents in APA style and cite sources correctly, especially sources from the web. Students will leave with an APA document template they can use for future papers.

  • “Master Microsoft Word”

April 5 and April 7

This workshop will take the frustration out of using Word by demonstrating its under-utilized features, helping students and faculty craft documents with ease. Learn to use headings, keep text on the bottom of the page, number pages automatically and create reusable templates.

Individuals who are unable to attend in person can contact Davidson at (580) 327-8572 or dgdavidson@nwosu.edu for the Zoom room information.
