October 7, 2024
As part of the Cherokee Main Street’s October Stroll on Oct. 12, Dr. Nicholus Ledbetter, assistant professor of biology at Northwestern Oklahoma State University, will talk on common snakes of northwest Oklahoma at 11 a.m. in the Cherokee Public Library. The event is free and open to the public.
From 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. visitors will be able to meet live snakes and other reptiles/amphibians like a spotted salamander, a bull snake and more.
“Living with snakes is something that every person in northwest Oklahoma has to deal with,” Ledbetter said. “This talk will give insight on how to identify which snakes are dangerous and what to do if you encounter one.”
This event is in collaboration with the Salt Plains National Wildlife Refuge.
