Northwestern Faculty Member Featured on Right Brain Music Podcast
July 5, 2021
Max Ridgway, Fine Arts department adjunct instructor of music at Northwestern Oklahoma State University, was recently interviewed to discuss improvised electric guitar music for the Right Brain Music podcast program series.
The Alva native was a guest speaker on episode 26, “Electric Guitar Innovators,” of the podcast series hosted by Scott Schaffer of Right Brain Records. They discussed Ridgway’s music and electric guitar improvisation in general.
“Because of COVID restrictions, I was unable to meet with Scott in person,” Ridgway said. “Instead, we conducted a lengthy interview by telephone. We discussed improvised music in a general way, and later, during the editing process, Scott Schaffer selected the examples of my music, which are heard in the podcast.”
Right Brain Records is a non-profit label that promotes the exploration of uncharted musical territories. Their recordings are improvisational soundscapes, excerpts of the vast potential of the human mind. According to their website, the Right Brain Music Podcast explores the realm of the musical unknown and artists who pitch their tents there.
“Doing interviews is a new thing for me, but I found it exciting and intellectually stimulating,” Ridgway said. “Scott asked intelligent questions, and I think the podcast he put together was brilliantly done. I look forward to working with him again.”
The podcast is posted for the public on the Right Brain Records website at www.rightbrainrecords.com/blog/2021/4/26/electric-guitar-innovators.
All episodes of the Right Brain Music podcast can also be found on the digital audio streaming service, Spotify.
Ridgway studied guitar with Jon Damian at Berklee College of Music and graduated in 1990, summa cum laude. He holds a master’s degree in music education from Northwestern.
