Northwestern Introduces 12 New Faculty Members

New Faculty 2023-24

Twelve new faculty members began their teaching assignments at Northwestern Oklahoma State University for the 2023-2024 school year. Seven faculty members have been hired in the School of Arts and Sciences with five in the School of Professional Studies.

Short biographies of each faculty member from the School of Arts and Sciences are listed below:

Dr. Jason Abrams, assistant professor of chemistry, holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from the University of Florida. He has a Master of Science in Chemistry from the University of Minnesota and a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from Florida State University.

Eric Burger, instructor of instrumental music and director of bands, holds a Bachelor of Music Education from California State University in Sacramento. He also has a Master of Arts in Music Performance Conducting from California State University in Fresno.

Dr. Adriana Carneiro

 

Dr. Adriana Carneiro, assistant professor of mass communication, has a Bachelor of Science in Communication, a master’s in culture and society and a doctorate in culture and society all from the Universidade Federal da Bahia (Federal University of Bahia) in Salvador, Brazil. She began teaching at the university in January 2023.

 

Thomas Cornell, assistant professor of visual arts, has a Bachelor of Fine Arts and Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of North Carolina in Charlotte and a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Notre Dame.

David Poindexter, associate professor of visual arts, has a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of Missouri in Columbia, a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Kansas City Art Institute and a Master of Fine Arts in Studio Art from Florida State University.

Dr. Jesse Schroeder, assistant professor of mass communication, has a Bachelor of Science in Mass Communication from Northwestern, a Master of Arts in Education in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Phoenix and a Ph.D. in Education from Northcentral University.

Dr. Brendan Stephens, assistant professor of English, has a Bachelor of Science in English-Creative Writing from Frostburg State University, a Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing from the University of Central Florida, a Master of Arts in Teaching in Secondary English and a Ph.D. in English-Creative Writing and Literature, both from the University of Houston.

Dr. Krystal Elliott, assistant professor of nursing, holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Doctor of Nursing Practice, both from Northwestern.

Dr. Sierra Elsey, assistant professor of nursing, has a Bachelor of Science in Health Science from Southwestern Oklahoma State University, a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Doctor of Nursing Practice, both from Northwestern.

Dr. Barry Evans, associate professor of business, earned a Bachelor of Science in Geology from Oklahoma State University, a Master of Business Administration from the University of Oklahoma and a Ph.D. in Human Science from Saybrook University.

Dr. Gwyneth Holderby, assistant professor of nursing in the Doctor of Nursing Practice program,  earned both a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree from Oklahoma City University.

Bailey Trammell, instructor of psychology, has a Bachelor of Science in Health and Sports Science and a Master of Counseling Psychology, both from Northwestern.
