Northwestern to play host to Blood Drive April 23-24
Northwestern Oklahoma State University’s Alva campus is partnering with the Oklahoma Blood Institute (OBI) to hold a blood drive from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday, April 23-24, in the Student Center Ranger Room.
The blood donor goal for the Northwestern Spanish club-sponsored event is 50 blood units each day. This event is open to the public.
All donors will receive free health screenings, donor reward points and their choice of inspirational t-shirts in one of three colors: coral, sky blue or gray. If donors opt not to take the t-shirt, OBI will make a monetary donation to the Global Blood Fund for blood center assistance in developing countries. Donors also will have the chance to enter a drawing for a $25 gift certificate to the Northwestern bookstore.
Free sandwiches will be available, and all donors will be entered in a drawing for a chance to win a FlatSafe storm shelter.
Donors are asked have a photo ID available to give blood.
Those wishing to donate are encouraged to go online and make an appointment. To make an appointment for Wednesday, April 23, visit https://www.yourbloodinstitute.org/donor/schedules/drive_schedule/291232.To make an appointment for Thursday, April 24, visit https://www.yourbloodinstitute.org/donor/schedules/drive_schedule/291233.
OBI is experiencing an emergency blood shortage and is issuing an urgent call for donors of all blood types.
Several days of winter weather, blood drive cancellations, and widespread illness, including a flu outbreak, have all contributed to a sharp downturn in donations. Levels have reached a less than one-day supply. Typically, OBI maintains a three- to five-day supply for local hospitals.
