Northwestern Visual Arts students Lilith Ferrero, Katelyn Findley and Rose Negelein attend an Iron Art Works Pour at the University of Oklahoma.
Northwestern Oklahoma State University visual arts students recently traveled to the University of Oklahoma campus in Norman to participate in an Iron Art Works Pour.
Lilith Ferrero, senior speech and theatre major from Cordell; Katelyn Findley, a sophomore visual arts major from Stillwater; and Rose Negelein, a senior biology major from Pawnee, were active participants in the event carving scratch blocks, which are molds for the items they cast in iron.
“It was a really cool experience to be able to learn about a form of art I had never been part of before,” Negelein said. “It was also really cool to be able help work the furnace and not just watch. At that scale the whole process takes a lot of people working together doing so many different jobs. It was a fantastic example of teamwork and a great opportunity to meet more artists.”

This trip was made possible in part by the “Building Belonging” art exhibit that the visual arts program is a key part of and hosted for a time. Read more about the exhibit here www.nwosu.edu/news/northwestern-first-stop-for-art-exhibit-building-belonging.
“This was a great opportunity not only to make art but for our students to have a chance to talk to their peers and graduate students who are also engaged in the arts across Oklahoma,” said Thomas Cornell, assistant professor of visual arts.
