NWOSU Art Society Art Show Open Through March 30 in Alva Campus Library
March 12, 2018
The 15th annual NWOSU Art Society Art Show is open to the public through March 30 in the J.W. Martin Library on the Alva campus.
More than 300 pieces of artwork are on display through March 30 at the 15th annual Northwestern Oklahoma State University Art Society (NAS) Art Show in the J.W. Martin Library in Alva. The show is free and open to the public during the library’s normal operating hours. The library will be closed during Spring Break March 19-23 and will reopen March 25 at 1 p.m.
A wide variety of art is on display including paintings, drawings, photography and quilts from current students, employees, retired employees and alumni.
Students have entered 226 pieces into the show and will be eligible for ribbons and cash prizes. Non-students have entered 125 pieces for the show.
The monetary prizes for students are $15 for first place, $5 for second and $2 for third. Each first place award will be considered for a Best of Show prize of $75. Non-student winners receive ribbons.
“We have 70 pieces entered in the visual arts student categories,” NAS sponsor Angelia Case said. “This is something that I am incredibly excited about, and our club members are, too.”
Everyone entered in the art show will be eligible for the People’s Choice ribbon and $50 cash prize. The People’s Choice award is determined by those who view the art show and submit votes. Ballots are available near the student display in the library.
“Before you leave the show, please vote for People’s Choice, sign our guest book and leave us a comment,” Case said. “Our members and our exhibitors value your comments very much.”
Case said the individual category awards, as well as the People’s Choice winner, will be announced prior to the end of the on-campus show, but the Best of Show winners won’t be revealed until the Winner’s Show that will take place in downtown Alva during the First Friday Art Walk April 6 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Runnymede Hotel.
Non-winning art from the campus show may be picked up at the library on Monday, April 2, by 5:30 p.m. Artwork from the community show at the Runnymede may be picked up at the end of that show at 8 p.m. or from Fine Arts 211 on Monday, April 9, by 5:30 p.m.
“The Art Society doesn’t have many members, but the group works hard on fundraising throughout the year so it can provide this opportunity to our Ranger family to showcase their talents,” Case said. “We also appreciate the support of the Student Government Association for its co-sponsorship of the show.”
