$100 scholarship winners

Northwestern admissions counselors/recruiters Luis Mendoza III (far left) and Trey Johnson (far right) join the five lucky winners of an additional $100 scholarship at Saturday’s Spring Showcase. Adding to the $500 scholarship received by just attending the event are (left to right) Bayler Hensley, Ethan Swanson, Alyssa Ball, Adam Musil and Shaylee Beck.

More than 100 prospective incoming freshmen and transfer students attended the Spring Showcase event Feb. 22 at Northwestern Oklahoma State University-Alva.

Calleb Mosburg, dean of student affairs and enrollment management, said in the history of this spring event this is one of the largest attended by potential students.

“We had 108 attendees to this year’s event,” Mosburg said. “This was an outstanding turnout, and we are looking forward to these students becoming Rangers very soon. I was very pleased with the event and appreciative of the faculty and student organizations that were there to talk with these potential students. The Recruitment Office, under the direction of Matt Adair, did a great job working to encourage students to attend and planning this event. Our outstanding student leaders who helped with the event made everything flow smoothly and helped to make the day special for all in attendance.  This was a true team effort by so many who came together and represented our Ranger Family. Thank you to all who were involved.”

High school seniors or transfer students who attended the event are now eligible to receive a $500 scholarship to Northwestern when they enroll on the Alva campus and live in Alva in the fall.

High school juniors who came will need to attend this event again during their senior year of high school to be eligible for the $500 scholarship or attend Ranger Preview in the fall to qualify for a $600 scholarship.

Any high school senior who attended Ranger Preview in the fall cannot stack the $500 Spring Showcase Scholarship on top of the $600 Ranger Preview Scholarship. Students also must meet all scholarship eligibility requirements.

Five students who attended Saturday’s event also received an additional $100 scholarship following a drawing. Those students are high school seniors Bayler Hensley of Mooreland, Alyssa Ball of Woodward, Adam Musil of Crescent, Shaylee Beck of White Deer, Texas, and transfer student Ethan Swanson from Alva.

Students and the family members who attended with them had the opportunity to visit with various faculty members and student organizations. Students were able to fill out their application for admission to the university for free, and they received a free t-shirt, lunch and were able to take a tour of the campus.

Student’s planning on attending Northwestern in the fall will be able to return to campus April 15 for Freshman Connection, a day set aside to allow incoming students a chance to meet with an adviser to prepare a class schedule, get enrolled and see the campus.
