19th Annual NWOSU Art Society Art Show March 6-25 in J.W. Martin Library

March 1, 2022

Nearly 300 pieces of art including these entries will be on display during the 19th annual NWOSU Art Society Art Show that will take place March 6-25 in the J.W. Martin Library on the Alva campus.

The 19th annual Northwestern Oklahoma State University Art Society Art Show will take place March 6-25 in the J.W. Martin Library on the Alva campus and will be open during the library’s regular business hours.

There are 300 items entered into this year’s art show with 31 students entering 173 total pieces and 23 non-students, which includes alumni and current/retired employees, entering 127 pieces.

Because of spring break, the library will be closed March 13-18 and will reopen Sunday, March 20, 1 p.m. to midnight. The library is closed on Saturdays.

Artwork entered includes photographs, paintings, drawings, crocheted and counted cross-stitched items and more. Viewing is free and open to the public.

“We have several quilts entered into this year’s show, all in the non-student area,” Angelia Case, NAS sponsor, said. “We are enjoying the participation of our alums from the Alva Quilt Guild. And, we have several new people entering this year, so I’m excited to see how the installation comes together.”

Top prize winners from last year’s show have artwork entered again this year including Warren Little and Victor Mendoza, both in the non-student entries area.

Prize ribbons will be awarded to all students and non-students placing first through third in all categories, along with Best of Show and People’s Choice. A $50 cash prize will be awarded to the student winning Best of Show, and the students placing first place in each category will earn $10. Everyone entered in the show is eligible to receive the People’s Choice cash prize of $25.

“We added the special category ‘Coloring’ this year to help promote creativity while also helping everyone find some stress relief,” Case said.

There are 15 entries in this category from seven students and eight non-students. These pieces will be judged together with the winners earning ribbons only.

“We want to thank the Student Government Association for co-sponsoring our show again this year and providing $250 to help us with funding it,” Case said.

All artwork that earns an award in this show will be eligible for the Winners’ Show that is scheduled for April 1 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Runnymede in downtown Alva during its regular First Friday Artwalk events.

Non-winning art from the campus show may be picked up at the library on Monday, March 28, by 5:30 p.m. Artwork from the Winners’ Show at the Runnymede may be picked up at the end of that show at 8 p.m. or from Ryerson Hall 211 on Monday, April 4, by 5:30 p.m.
