Kyle Hair, Northwestern Chief of Police
Northwestern Oklahoma State University has a new campus police chief in Kyle Hair.
The CLEET Certified Advanced Peace Officer and Firearms instructor spent the last seven years working as a park ranger at Little Sahara State Park near Waynoka and said he was ready for something different.
“I have witnessed how big of an impact Northwestern has in its community and felt like I wanted to be part of that,” he said.
Hair, who earned a Bachelor of Science degree in parks and recreation management with a minor in business administration from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in May 2008, has more than 1,300 law enforcement education training hours.
“I was excited to see Kyle apply for the campus police chief position,” said Calleb Mosburg, dean of student affairs and enrollment management at Northwestern. “Kyle has an impressive resume’ and is well-respected in the law enforcement community. Since being hired, Kyle has already made a positive impact on campus by working with members of our campus community to assist them in a time of need. Kyle is a great resource for our university and is always willing to help. He is excited to be here at Northwestern, and I am thankful he has joined our Ranger family.”
Hair, who is a husband to Kassie and father to 11-year-old daughter Aubrey, has been an adventure coordinator with the Southwestern Foss Lake Adventure program and a part-time patrol officer with the Alva Police Department.
He said Northwestern’s campus police department has a great relationship with the surrounding agencies that include the Alva Police Department and the Woods County Sherriff’s Office.
“Anytime we need help, either agency is more than willing to step in and vice versa,” he said.
In his first few weeks on the job, Hair has gotten to know a lot of faculty and staff on campus.
“Everybody that I have come into contact with at the university has been very welcoming,” he said.
One of the main goals he has for the department is to be approachable for the students.
“We want the students to feel comfortable to come and ask for help or ask questions,” he said.
Hair said he welcomes everyone to contact him or his officers with questions.
“We have some great officers that work for the department, and they are always happy to help.”
Northwestern’s campus police officers may be reached at (580) 327-8511 in Alva or (580) 213-3130 in Enid. Hair’s email address is kthair@nwosu.edu.
