Four Northwestern Oklahoma State University mass communication majors traveled to Oklahoma City for the annual OETA/OBEA Student Day on Wednesday, Oct.4. Students were part of four different sessions.

The students — Allison Schieber, Okeene junior; Asia Williams, Corpus Christi, Texas, junior; Karolina Juresiute, Vilnius, Lithuania, junior; and Tara Owens, Alva junior — were part of four different sessions.

In the first session titled Creative Video and Film Production in Oklahoma the students learned about the growing film industry in the state and gave some insight on how to get involved. The panelists discussed video editing techniques and what they look for when hiring new employees.

The second session was Traditional and Emerging Sports Careers. This session focused on how to embrace the changes happening in sports journalism.

Session three was AI and Virtual Reality. This session addressed how Artificial Intelligence and virtual reality are changing the way some parts of the media industry do business.

The last session was titled Beyond the Teleprompter: On-Air Talent. This session gave students a glimpse of what is required to work in front of the camera in today's media landscape.

Panelists addressed social media, appearance, performance techniques, and offered advice on how to get started in the industry.

"This is a great opportunity for our students to not only learn from the professionals currently working in the media industry, but to also network with broadcasters who may help them find internships and employment," said Dr. Jesse Schroeder, assistant professor of mass communication.
