Miss Northwestern Cookbook Fundraiser Seeking Recipe Submissions

October 30, 2024

Northwestern Oklahoma State University is getting a new cookbook thanks to a fundraiser for the Miss Northwestern organization.

Past and present Rangers are asked to submit their favorite recipes for the cookbook by Nov. 30.

“If you are a Northwestern graduate, employee or student, your recipe contribution will be foundational to making this project a success,” said Paige Fischer, director of the Miss Northwestern competition and Northwestern Bursar. “If you have connections with former or retired employees or graduates, please encourage them to submit a recipe, too.”

Fischer said they will accept typed and legibly handwritten submissions as well as photos, screenshots or copies of recipes.

The recipes must include all required ingredients, step-by-step instructions, the name of the person submitting the recipe, current or past positions at Northwestern, and years of graduation from Northwestern, along with degrees earned as a Ranger. Current students should include their classification at Northwestern.

Fischer added those submitting recipes could also include a photo from their time at Northwestern as some will be used throughout the cookbook. Those submitting recipes also may include a short note of two to three sentences about a favorite memory at Northwestern as some of these also may be featured in the cookbook.

If duplicate recipes are received, the first submission will be used for the cookbook and others will be notified so a different recipe can be submitted.

Recipes will be accepted via email to Fischer at plfischer@nwosu.edu. Recipes also may be mailed to her attention in the Northwestern-Alva Business Office, 709 Oklahoma Blvd., Alva, OK 73717, or taken to her in the business office in Herod Hall.

Once the recipe collection process is finished, Fischer said more information about ordering a cookbook will be released.

“Each person who submits a recipe will be entered to win a free cookbook,” Fischer said.

The last cookbook generated at Northwestern that includes several recipes from many Rangers and friends was a project by the Northwestern library staff for the university’s centennial celebration in 1997. It was titled, “A Taste of Northwestern: A Centennial Cookbook.” It was compiled by library staff members Ray Lau, Bea LeValley, Susan Jeffries, Cindy Gottsch and Marilyn Moore with illustrations by Angelia Case. This project was sponsored by the Northwestern Foundation, and profits from the sale of the centennial book formed a library endowment with the interest to be used to purchase books.

Fischer said the new cookbook will contain several special entries from former Rangers, including past Miss Northwestern titleholders.

“This cookbook will serve as a piece of Northwestern history and tie together generations of Northwestern Rangers as memories and favorite dishes are shared,” Fischer said.
