Northwestern Oklahoma State University’s Fine Arts Department will present a masterworks band concert Tuesday, April 30, at 7 p.m. in Herod Hall auditorium, Alva campus. This will be the band’s second and last concert of the semester, and it will feature the community band, jazz ensemble and symphony band. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
Michael Cudd, instructor of music and director of bands, said the bands will be playing music by a few well-known composers such as John Mackey, Ralph Vaughn Williams, Frank Ticheli, John Phillips Sousa and Leonard Bernstein.
“Out of all the concerts I’ve had here through the last four years, this one’s going to be the most exciting because we’re honestly going to sound amazing,” Jacob Marr, senior computer science major from Laverne, said.
Fellow band member Katherine Blair, junior instrumental music education major from Waynoka, agreed.
“I think this is probably going to be our best concert within the last three years I’ve been here,” Blair said. “It is just full of energy, and this band has given its all, all year, and I’m so excited for the end product.”
Students have been rehearsing for this concert since after spring break, but have had a couple of music pieces since January.
“The band’s been working really hard,” Cudd said. “This is kind of our big accumulation point for the whole year. All their hard work throughout the year accumulates to this concert.”
