Northwestern Oklahoma State University will play host to the fourth annual Guitar Festival on April 1 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Ryerson Hall 200.

The Guitar Festival began in 2017, and there has been one every year except for 2020 and 2021 due to COVID-19.

The festival’s purpose is to provide young guitarists an outlet to perform and receive constructive feedback from faculty at Northwestern.

This event is open to anyone interested in participating; however, there is a fee of $10. The public is welcome to attend free of charge.

“This year we’re really looking forward to the return of the festival after being forced to cancel the previous two years,” said Max Ridgway, adjunct instructor of music who teaches guitar. “I always enjoy hearing young players, and I never fail to be impressed with their skills and dedication.”

Ridgway said generally, participants come primarily from the Enid school system where there is a strong guitar program in primary, middle and secondary grades.

For more information about the guitar festival, contact Ridgway at maridgway@nwosu.edu.

For more information on the Northwestern Bands, contact Dr. Michael Black, director of bands and assistant professor of music, at (580) 327-8191 or mcblack@nwosu.edu.
