Northwestern’s Visiting Writer Series to Welcome Poet to Campus April 9
March 13, 2025
The Northwestern Oklahoma State University Department of English, Foreign Language and Humanities will play host to author and poet Dr. John Andrews for the annual Visiting Writer Series.
The event will be Wednesday, April 9, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Student Center Ranger Room on the Northwestern-Alva campus. The Visiting Writer Series presentation is open to students, faculty, staff and the general public.
Dr. David Vaughn, assistant professor of English, said the series is the department’s way of bringing writers with a tie to Oklahoma to our region every spring to discuss writing, the publishing industry and to share their work with all interested parties.
Andrews earned his Bachelor of Arts in Writing at the University of Central Arkansas, his Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing at Texas State University and his Doctorate in English at Oklahoma State University. He grew up in Sheridan, Arkansas, and currently lives in Stillwater with his husband. He is a teaching assistant professor and Director of K-12 Outreach in the Honors College at Oklahoma State University.
His poems have appeared in Ninth Letter, Columbia Poetry Review, The Boiler, Redivider and other publications. Along with being nominated for the Pushcart Prize, his poems have also been anthologized in “The Queer South: LGBTQ Writers on the American South,” and “Aim for the Head: An Anthology of Zombie Poetry.”
He will be reading selections from his book, “Colin is Changing His Name,” which was a finalist for the 2018 Oklahoma Book Award and the 2015 Moon City Poetry Prize. The Northwestern bookstore will be present to sell the book, and Andrews will be available to answer audience questions and sign copies.
