Ranger Royalty Finalists, Freshman Queen Announced; King, Queen to be Crowned Oct. 5

Northwestern Oklahoma State University held its annual Ranger Royalty Banquet Wednesday following the first round of voting for king and queen candidates. The Student Government Association (SGA) officers announced this year’s Freshman Queen, Brenda Lezama of Turpin, and named the six final candidates for Ranger King and Ranger Queen.

Lezama is a business major who enjoys being involved with the NWOSU cheer team, Hispanic American Leadership Organization (HALO) and NWOSU Baptist Collegiate Ministries. She is the daughter of Miguel and Brisa Lezama. She is sponsored by HALO.

The first Ranger King finalist is Jalen Ghee, a senior business major from Buffalo, NY. His hobbies include reading, writing in his journal and spending time in his Bible. Ghee is a member of the men’s track and field team, which is his sponsoring organization. He is the son of Jaykell Ghee.

The second Ranger King finalist is Marshal Howard, a senior instrumental music education major from Laverne. Howard can solve a Rubik’s Cube, enjoys 3D printing, archery and is a football referee. He is the son of Michael and Melody Howard and is sponsored by the Ranger Business Club. 

The third Ranger King finalist is Chris Perez, a senior instrumental music education major from Laverne. He enjoys playing music and working. Perez is the Phi Delta president, as well as drumline section leader. He is the son of Flor Hernandez and is sponsored by Ranger Bands. 

The first Ranger Queen finalist is Kate Foster, a junior education major from Alva. Foster enjoys hunting,reading, crocheting, lifting weights and all sports. She also enjoys going to the BCM worship nights. Foster’s sponsoring organization is cross country. She is the daughter of Summer and Dave Foster.

The second Ranger Queen finalist is Diamond Hilton, a senior psychology major from Sapulpa. Her hobbies include running track, working out, being outside, and spending time with her friends. Hilton is a resident assistant in Cunningham Hall and a member of the Psychology Club. She is a member of the women’s track and field team, which is her sponsoring organization. Hilton is the daughter of Christina Hilton.

The third Ranger Queen finalist is Tara Owen, a senior mass communication major from Alva. Owen is a member of the Northwestern Scholar Ambassadors where she participates in community service activities. She participates in Northwestern News and NWTV-7 where she helps keeps campus informed. NWTV-7 is her sponsoring organization. She is the daughter of Jeff and Terri Owen.

Other Ranger Royalty members are flower girl Justice Jones, daughter of Jeremy and Gretchen Jones; and crown bearer Braxton Lauderdale, son of Tim and Andrea Lauderdale.

The other candidate for Ranger King included Eldon Walters, a freshman nursing major from Ringwood.

The other candidates for Ranger Queen included Chloe Bradt, a junior elementary education major from Alva; Melanie Callaway, a junior social work major from Woodward; Estrella Martinez, a sophomore nursing major from Laverne; Maria Sosa, a junior biology health sciences major from Laverne; Cora Beth Taylor, a senior biology and chemistry major from Kingfisher; Rosa Vargas, a junior instrumental music education major from Lahoma; Haley Voelzke, a sophomore nursing major from Alva; and Raylen Weve, a junior business major from Cherokee.

The other candidates for Freshman Queen included Ashley Carter, a biology and chemistry major from Texhoma; Carson Schanbacher, an exercise science major from Cherokee; and Ashlyn Whitely, an elementary education major from Alva.

The second and final round of voting for Ranger King and Queen will take place Monday, Sept. 30, and Tuesday, Oct. 1.

The Ranger King and Ranger Queen Coronation ceremony will take place during halftime of the homecoming football game against Arkansas Tech University on Saturday, Oct. 5. The game starts at 3 p.m.
