Story Walk to take place Friday, Oct. 6 in Alva’s Downtown Square
October 6, 2017
Two Northwestern Oklahoma State University academic programs are coming together to serve as guides and readers for the first Story Walk event to be held on Friday, Oct. 6, at 5-6:30 p.m., in Alva’s downtown Arts and Shopping District.
Children from pre-school, kindergarten, first grade, and their parents are encouraged to attend. The Story Walk is fall themed.
English education majors, as well as students in a children's literature class within the elementary education program, will be working with the young readers in Alva and the area. There will be five stations set up for the public to visit with a different book located at each station. There is no specific order of the stations to go in for the Story Walk.
This event will be held in conjunction with the Graceful Arts Gallery and Studios’ First Friday Art Walk. The story walk stops include the Washington School Gazebo (located on 7th Street across from the Public Library), the Pocket Park at the Alva Public Library, the Courthouse Stage, and the “Lemon Drops” Bronze at the corner of 4th and Barnes streets.
Northwestern’s Young Adult Literature Class will be outside of Graceful Arts Center with poetry and candy.
The Northwestern students will be under the leadership of Dr. Kathy Earnest, assistant professor of English, and Dr. Jen Oswald, assistant professor of education.
