‘The Wizard of Oz’ Adaptation to be Presented to Area School Children, Public
November 12, 2024
Members of Reichenberger Department of Fine Arts are excited to present this year’s annual theatre production for young audiences: “The Wizard of Oz,” adapted by Erin Detrick.
A public performance of the play will be presented in Herod Hall’s Fellers Family Auditorium on Saturday, Nov. 23, at 2 p.m. Admission for all seats is $2, and tickets will be sold at the door. The production also will be presented to area school children on Nov. 21-22.
This imaginative adaptation captures the heart of L. Frank Baum’s classic tale of Dorothy in the Land of Oz. A funny and fast-paced journey down the yellow brick road, Dorothy and her new friends travel to the fabled Emerald City to meet the Great Oz. When Oz demands a steep price for sending her home to Kansas, a perilous new adventure begins.
Kimberly Weast, professor of theatre and chair of the Department of Fine Arts, is the director and will assist Lillith Ferrero, a senior majoring in speech and theatre from Cordell, with lighting design. Lisa Turner, an Alva senior majoring in speech and theatre, is the stage manager. Bella Anguino, a freshman speech and theatre major from Glenpool, will serve as the assistant stage manager. Scenic design was completed by Mickey Jordan, director of technical theatre and Fellers Family Auditorium facilities manager. Jaden Matthews, a junior speech and theatre major from Hennessey, designed the costumes with Turner assisting. John Hillman, a sophomore computer science major from Cheyenne, will facilitate audio design. The theatre production I and II classes will work as the stage and lighting crews.
Cast members for this production include the following:
