Sagelyn Budy, Karoline Juresiute and Derrick Galindo, all involved in the Northwestern Oklahoma State University mass communication program, have been named as finalists in the Keep Oklahoma Beautiful End Litter Video Contest, and the public can help select the winners by voting online through Feb. 2. |
Three of the four finalists in the college category of the Keep Oklahoma Beautiful End Litter Video Contest are Northwestern Oklahoma State University mass communication students, and the public can help select the winners.
The students -- Sagelyn Budy, Alva junior majoring in agriculture and minoring in mass communication; Derrick Galindo, Alva sophomore majoring in mass communication; and Karoline Juresiute, Pratt, Kansas, junior majoring in mass communication -- each took the challenge to create a 25- to 45-second video showcasing how littering is damaging and submitted their entries by the Dec. 31, 2023, deadline.
Eight videos from the college and high school finalists may be viewed at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/EndLitter23-24 and voted on once per day through 4 p.m. on Feb. 2.
One winner in both divisions will be announced in mid-February. The winning videos will appear on the Keep Oklahoma Beautiful website and social media platforms, and the winning students will each receive a $1,200 prize and be honored at a banquet.
“I am happy for these three students,” said Dr. Jesse Schroeder, assistant professor of mass communication. “They worked really hard on this project, and their hard work is paying off.
“Many of our mass comm students are full of creativity and skills. Being named a finalist in a state-wide competition showcases how Northwestern students can compete with their peers at other institutions.”
